Hi everyone,

i am thinking about buying an old dragon built in mahogany/oak which was out of water for the last 5 years. As my budget is limited, i would like to find a place in the area where i could carry out most of the work during winter.

Any reference you could give me for a friendly boatyard or barnowner who has drystoring facilities ?

Thanks a bunch!

Nik

IMHO farmers have become less likely to rent out the odd corner of a field or a bit of barn space because they've ended up with too many abandoned dreams. You may find a boatyard with shed space that'll allow solely diy. Unfortuately, you tend to have to pay through the nose.

As the Dragon is about 30' overall, it's the same sort of size as mine and shed storage that I've found ranges from approx £30 - in excess of £100 a week in Falmouth for our boat.

It will probably be cheaper, although alot more hassle, to get outside space and invest in a good tenting arrangement.

thanks for the input,

i was expecting something like that... in that case would anybody have a tip for a fairly priced outside storage facility in the area?

I think a tent is a good idea, am just worried about the humidity, as i am thinking of epoxying the hull...

If Bursledon not too far try Antony Foulks at the chandlery barge or across the road through deacons to the next yard. Allternatively try Wicor Marine at Portchester or even Brown's boatyrd at Portsmouth Camber.
