The club does indeed own the wall. There are some quirky bits though. We can't change it without permission from CADW because it is G2 listed (obviously we got round that bit) but we must "maintain" it. We are not allowed to maintain it coz its G2 - and so on. So we cannot maintain the dangerously slippy steps, but we are legally responsible for accidents that people have. No matter, the steps will be covered by the bridge down to the pontoons.
We are in no way obligated to provide visitor moorings, but we are providing 3 at our own expense.
For the club to have a long term sustainable future, we need more money than we currently make (even though we are busy and membership is up) and this is because we provide far more sophisticated services and facilities to memebers than we did 36 years ago when we first opened for business. The only way to do this is to provide more services that are actually chargable - and the mini-marina is the best way we know of. We got a 40% grant from the WDA against what was a reasonable quote to start with. The return on investment is fabulous and within 3 years we will turn in £25k pa with the investment fully paid for. And moreover the design life and leasehold for the venture is 20 years. All moorings are already fully subscribed, so we are in business even before they are completed.
