Hi all,

Planning a trip for this weekend out of Cardiff and was thinking of visiting Porthcawl (or maybe Watchet).

If I head down on the Ebb I will need to anchor somewhere and wait until the Marina gates open HW-3.

Any recommendations of suitable places to anchor. I was thinking of tucking in behind (to the north of) Tuskar rock or is this a bad idea.

Thanks

Hi
Given that the forecast for the weekend is NE winds, I would have thought that yopu would be sheltered there. The sea is forecast to be very slight. Only issue could be tide - it does sluice through the nash passage but whether its sluicing by Tuskar I do not know.

If you do go to Porthcawl let us know what its like and whether it can cope with a deep fin.

Had a great trip down on Saturday.

Locked out of Cardiff at HW 10am and a broad reach gave us 8knots over the ground and we arrived at 14:30. Anchored off Newton point, very calm sea state and waited until the gate opened at 18:30.

Arriving at LW means you have the advantage of being able to see tusker rock and so avoid it.

Marina was great and staff very welcoming. Staff were even waiting for us on the pontoon as we arrived. £13 a night including electric, excellent value and new facilities.

The Marina operates 3 hours either side of HW but only between the hours of 7am and 10pm unless you ask permission 24 hours in advance.

I wish I had left earlier than 7am on Sunday as I only had 3.5 hours of flood tide which got us as far as Barry, which gave an epic struggle to get past Lavernock point.

Oh and we were lucky enough to see some Dolphin like creatures off Nash point!
