I had a very quick look at the work going on in the harbour, today. The bridge is in place and the eastern wall has been extended. I am sure somebody had mentioned the sill is in place. The builders were all pretty busy, too. Perhaps it will be completed before the end of this coming season.
Wind blowing from the east and the entrance looked a bit confused, as one would expect.
Should be a good addition to the Bristol Channel and to the town of Porthcawl. Caps off to the Town Council.
Fair winds,
Lancelot

HI Lancelot, are you on the waiting list? I am and I have been in contact with the Council regarding setting up or joining an organisation to help sort out how it will run etc. Some feedback but mainly from one very helpful lady. There are concerns with security when the marina is complete, it seems. Unlike a lot of marinas, this will be right in the centre of the town activities and whilst I am sure this can be a good thing, I have heard that vandalism and theft could be a problem and has been in the past. Barry is outside of the centre but still has had issues with theft and vandalism. Secure car parking for users seems to be very low down on the priority list and also hauling out facilities and area does not seem to be set aside. Does this mean berth holders will have to hire a crane or haul out soemwhere else. No idea on berthing costs as yet either. I may be wrong but I am concerned that whereas they may have the very best of intentions, have the Managers thought through all these and many more areas of concern? Who are they takiling to? I am not convinced but hope to be.

The tidal gate for Porthcawl arrived in the Bristol Channel last week along with the middle gates for Portbury on a barge from Holland. The Porthcawl gate is being stored at Portbury I understand before its needed for installation on site.

Hi Channel, thanks for the update regarding the sill.
Hi Siencyn, no, I am not on the waiting list, I think we will stay at Swansea. The facilities are better there. I think you may have to hire a crane at Porthcawl, I believe that is what they used to do. We will use it for short weekends, etc.
Fair winds,
Lancelot.

If there arent shore storage facilities at Porthcawl there is a hoist and yard facilities at Barry under new management on the site that Ray Harris Marine used to occupy. No reason someone couldnt have a berth in Porthcawl then lift out in Barry for the winter.

Dont know what he charges but have been told its reasonable. Will add a phone number to this post when I can if anyone is interested. The hoist is fairly new I have seen a steel trawler on it plus Lifeboats and Pilotboats so it must be good for 40 ton at least.

Thanks Graham,

I used to belong to Barry so I know the situation there. It will still be a pain but you have to wonder what sort of charges they will make at Porthcawl if they haven't the fcilities of other locations. The talk is of electric and water on the berths so I expect they will want to charge as much as they can. Bit of a worry and I don't understand why they can't give a forecast to those on the waiting list. As I say apart from one or two lovely, helpful people the Council seems intent on keeping the plans secret.
