We're planning a cruise this summer to St Brides Bay. I'd like to visit Solva and also Porth Clais. Is the latter accessible for a 30' bilge keeler?

Images of Porth Clais that you can easily find on-line don't look to me like somewhere suitable to visit with a 30 footer. At least not without a darned good look at LW beforehand
Perhaps anchor outside in settled weather for a lunch stop.
There do not seem to be any attractions ashore. No pub or restaurant.
One point in its favour is that Jet skis are not allowed I see.
Not so keen, on the other hand, on what looks like a sewage works a little way up the road.
Theres one of those a Solva too by the look of it!

yes you can it used to be a working port where they used to ship out stone from quarry there is a pub come restaruant there.alright for a night solva much better

The largest I've seen is a 34ft BK yacht and a Southerly dried out on the visitors moorings in Solva.

We're based in Milford Haven and often spend time in St Brides Bay. Porth Clais is tiny. The only visiting boats I've seen there have been kayaks. It might be just possible to squeeze in but I wouldn't recommend it.
There is a good anchorage 1NM west, at Porthlysgi, well sheltered from west thhrough north to south east but open to the southwest. Dinghy ashore and walk to St Davids etc.
Do you have the Tom Bennett book on the Pembrokeshire Coast? If not, get a copy.

I suggest you take a road trip there and make your own mind up. I know it, but not from sailing. I would probably try it. The area is beautiful.
Solva is nice too, but busier (its all relative though).
If you feel brave you could run through Ramsay sound (avoiding the bitches), and if you are feeling very brave you could possibly just squeeze into Porthgain further north, where there is a nice pub - The Sloop (although I haven't been there for 8 years, so it could have gone to pot by now).

thanks for your advice, i think we'll give it a miss. i've been there on foot some time ago. its attraction is that its only a short walk to st davids. i've been through both ramsey and jack sounds and know that there is an anchorage in ramsey. i'll certainly get hold of a copy of the local pilot.
