Portable TV/DVD, screen size 10\'\'+ to work also with batteries

I don't want to have a "proper" installation of TV but I prefer something portable to even use outside at the cokpit when kids are asleep. Any ideas for portable TV/DVD with rechargeable batteries (plus of course ability to work with 12V car socket and 240 volts; though I believe that's standard anyway)?
Thanks

Avtec do a 10" wide screen that will run 12volt, mains or with a added battery.
They also have built in dvd, digital, usb, card reader
very nice and light, but not the cheapest of things to buy

cnh,
I also use my laptop for the kids watching DVD when at anchorage and getting bored. But as soon as battery is gone you cannot charge it from the boat.

Why not ? Have a wandering lead to a dc-dc convertor or even inverter and use normal power pack ..........

I can charge my NB onboard with nothing special other than a cheapo Maplins 12v power pack.

I know it's not what you wanted but I bought a 19" TV from Aldi recently. When I got it to the boat I found it had a 240v to 12v. Simple installation, I will add a relay to ensure it is never on when the engine running.

19" 12v , HD 1080p with DVD player and freeview digital decoder. Also works as a screen for an onboard PC ( vga input ) and has external video inputs for camcorder playback. It comes with a 240 to 12v adaptor but runs direct off the batteries. Very happy with it.

Very similar to Vyv's, with Freeview and DVD built-in, we have one from Comet - similar price.

Inputs for various other uses - video camera, computer monitor etc.

We run ours from an inverter, to maintain a constant voltage. Not the most power efficient, but no voltage fluctuation. It will run from 12V as well as the power supply unit is a 12V jobbie.

I know, 12V to 240V and then 240V down to 12V. But if it fails, it will not be to over-voltage.

I believe Asda also do one that is cheaper.

Getting an adapter to charge your laptop from the boat's batteries is a good deal cheaper than buying a dedicated DVD machine.

Funny how many 12 - 15" Tvs cost almost as much as a cheaper laptop, which can do so much more anyway. Running a laptop from 12volts is no problem with something like this from Maplins: http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=223912 unless you have a very limited battery capacity, or want to watch the whole of Lord of the Rings in one sitting!
