portable generator. Which one?

Totally agree with Assassin.

I’m currently looking into this myself, first thought was to go for a small generator as many people have mentioned, research has found other solutions such as battery power stations such as the ecoflow delta range as an example

Portable Power Stations

Again it all depends on how much you need to draw and over what period of time.

Thanks for bringing these to my attention. They look very interesting. I only need power for a TV for a couple of hours a day and a coffee machine. So these could be a great quiet alternative, especially coupled to a solar panel for recharge.

St840 - we’ve got young kids and totally get the tv thing. However, we’ve got a 12v tv on board our boat and it’s perfectly adequate - built in Dvd and freeview. Also a gas kettle!

Do you really need a genset?

My TV is 240v. So yeah. Easier than buying a new tv, changing the wiring and then listening to swmbo complain about the poor coffee!!

It's certainly personal how much time you want to spend in front of a TV.
A key reason for us to remove the boat TV was that we don't watch a lot on the whole, nor do we have an expensive TV streaming subscription. The PC on board is used for various things (like work-from-'home' ?) and of course can stream web sources, You2be etc.
Our home TV is switched on when there is a decision to watch something, not as unconditional reflex (possibly something with our generation ?)

Unconditional reflex interesting term. Not sure that has anything to do with watching the TV though………. Perhaps we should all go and read a book instead because that is of course better:confused:

We used to have a TV but we found it was rarely used, so removed it and use a tablet with a WiFi connected aerial to receive terrestial TV and freeview through an app, works well all running off USB / boat battery.

I'm currently looking up portable solar panels to boost capacity when anchored for a few days rather than a portable generator, maybe this would work as less hassle of maintaining and fueling a portable generator.

What about these large electrical generators / power packs as per the article recently in MBY, you will have to spend at least £1k but no fuel or fumes etc etc
