I have a Fusion MS-205 stereo system installed on the boat. It is outstanding for IPOD and FM radio etc but I miss not being able to get certain stations that are only available on digital radio. The 205 can be wired to accept input from an AUX source so I wondered if anyone could recommend an inexpensive digital radio that could be so connected? i.e. Has a suitable output socket?

Mr Google hasn't been much help thus far...

Kev.

My first post but it should have some meat to it. I have had a Roberts DAB radio for a couple of years and its performed flawlessly. Even though the antenna broke off to its last leg it still tunes and receives every DAB transmission. It also has output sockets although the sound as a standalone for such a small portable device nears into Bose territory, I couldn't rate them high enough when considering bang for buck.

I've had it on the boat for the last month or so and will be ripping out my current sound system until this winters re-fit and using the Roberts for the time being. I wouldn't even consider it much of a compromise except that its portable and not screwed down.

the aux socket should take the headphones out from anything really. and i think the sound problems with cheapie radios are caused by small speakers etc - the digital kit still gives a proper output if you plug it into a decent speaker/ampifier system so you won't need to pay the earth for a radio.

Not answering the question and also stating the obvious, but just in case it didn't occur to anyone with one these units: the fusion thingies have their "aux in" as a couple of RCA sockets dangling off the back. I found it handy to drill a couple of holes in the panel just above the chart table where I could secure a radio, computer or other aux source, put in a couple of panel mount RCA sockets and connect them up to the aux in on the fusion (obviously you could alternatively use a 3.5mm panel mount stereo socket if you prefer). Bits all available in Maplin.

I use a Goodmans GSR80 DAB radio AUX-out plugged into the AUX-in sockets on my Philips az2538 "ghetto blaster". The DAB radio is supposed to be portable, but it's big, heavy and greedy for power. I'd never use it on the boat, but the arrangement is good for Planet Rock in the house.

Mine doesn't have any RCA sockets but it has 2 wires to which I could attach some I suppose.
