for those difficult to get to bilge puddles.

I think it was this forum where I learned from one of our shipmates to make a pump from a car screenwash pump. Whoever you are thank you.

Today I visited a scrapyard, found a suitable pump and tubing - cost £5

I went to an electrical supplier for crimp connectors, wire and crocodile clips - cost £2.80

Great idea, I'm a happy camper! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

So long as the pump you bought is self priming. most are either not self priming or if they ar have very limited suction when running dry like only 2~3" - not much use if you are trying to suck the bilge water up a couple of feet to the pump.

The year before last I bought a Rule submersible bilge pump and connected it to around 5m of hose and 8m of cable, with a cigar lighter plug on the end. We can dangle it over the side (nearly 2m freeboard) to get a constant flow of low pressure sea water for sluicing the chain, deck, when dealing with fish, etc. It also comes in handy when the tender gets filled by a sudden downpour. It would also be useful to clear bilge sections - though I haven't needed to.
