I know the season's just started, but looking ahead, I am considering wintering ashore at Port Solent. Their T&Cs specify that no person shall reside aboard whilst ashore. My intent would be to go and work on the boat at weekends and therefore to occasionally sleep aboard. If I am discrete, is this likely to be a problem, or do Port Solent enforce this rule - advice from those who have wintered ashore there much appreciated.

I intend to do the same this winter. I doubt we would be alone! I figure so long as you don't have all lights blazing and stereo pumping out they will be non the wiser!

I have stayed the odd night onboard while the boat has been ashore there in the past, as have several other owners around me, nobody seemed to mind! I think the idea of putting that in the T/C's is to have means to stop people from taking the piss!

neil1967,

What security does Port Solent have ?

Wouldn't it be sensible to ask Port Solent about this part of the Ts&Cs or at least inform them that you intend staying aboard occasionally.

Presumably there is some form of security. Activity on a boat at night may be interpreted as a break-in with obvious results.

If they just ignore night time activity without pre-warning it doesn't say much for their security.

Port Solent have regular security that walk around the yard a few times a day (not sure about night time but probably), plus the whole site is covered with CCTV I believe. If anyone askes you are working "long-hours" to get the boat ready, I can't see a problem.
