Porquerolle’s Classic

Hi everyone
I’m on Porquerolles right now and on Thursday the classic yacht race begins


we are leaving Thursday morning so might not see much racing (although we may return Saturday)

Anyhow, all the beautiful yachts are arriving…some I saw on swinging moorings as I was coming in but obviously it was not convenient to stop and photograph
This morning I went down to the sea wall where some of them are congregating

The big boys have arrived



It’s going to look spectacular tomorrow when they all leave together for the races

Could I have either the 2nd or 3rd one in your second post, please. (I can't decide between the beauty of the 3rd, and the more practical (for someone like me who doesn't fold up as well as I used to) 2nd.

I was very tempted by the yawls in the later photos - I'm a sucker for yawls - but they're just too big for me.

Normally I am up for a night raid....but these boats are all crewed by fit young men
While it is a thing of beauty and would fill you with pride of ownership....you are in fact making a pact with the devil and a never ending tin of vanish and paint brush....you’d never own one of these boats because they would own you

If you happen to own the yawlin the above photo how do you crew it,we’re do you find enough experienced people who are fit and available.Arethey paid crew on that size of yacht .Seems a bit of a headache what with insurance ,pay,expenses.

I don’t know...for the bigger yachts there is probably a healthy budget for racing, cruising and most importantly maintenance....for the smaller boats it’s probably love and sacrifice and friends. In fact exactly like every form of boating when you think about it

When it comes to people like me there is lots to be grateful for
But on a serious note…these people are custodians of a piece of history and I think we should celebrate that
