Hi Tim, I am sure I had your boat about 10 years ago, it had the fist sized hole in the back and the wood effect cocpit sole and back... I found it sunk, did it up and sold it to a guy in Stourport... I wish I had have kept it... I loved that boat. Got loads of pics of the project if you are interested.

Hi!

One of the boats find its way to Sweden. I bought one just last summer and put a 70 hp engine on it. The boat works like a charm and will push about 30-35 knots!!! My boat has been modified and the stearncabin (?) is gone. We will fiddle some with it this winter and then I will post some picturs if you want me to?

Projects for winter are:

New paintjob
Improve cabin
Improve reardeck
New windows
Switch antenna

pweheee!! Got some hours to put in.....:D

At the moment the project is on ice (to much snow and to cold in Sweden :mad:). But hoping to start soon. Picts would be awsome!!

I am looking at a Fantasy 20 but....

There is one for sale for £1,800 at the moment looks nice from outside and canopy in good condition but interior a little tatty. I was just about to purchase it but then my friend told me that they are not stable on the water when he viewed one it wobbled and rocked like mad when he climbed aboard.

Is this correct? do they wobble a lot? I will have an ice cream machine on board and I am also disabled so if it is very unstable maybe I should look for a bigger boat.

p.s I am looking to buy a boat to turn it into an ice cream boat in London and become a roving continuous cruiser trader. If anyone knows of a boat could you let me know please, many thanks (or should i just buy the fantasy 20 i have already seen?)

Your friend is correct in the statement regarding the stability,but my friend has a similar size boat and has the same problem this condition is normal for a boat this size and type of hull ,however I have fitted a 40hp mercury ( 2 stroke) to the fantasy 20 and solved the problem as the boat now sits in the water better and i am very pleased with the results..you could of course fit extra ballast (sand bags) into the rear compartments under the bunks ...what size is the engine on the boat you may buy? Do you have any pictures that you can send me.
Interesting and a coincidence you mention the icecream idea as I manufacture goats ice cream ( very healthy ) from the biggest goat farm in Ireland.I would like to talk to you more off line regarding both projects :)

I've just come across this thread as researching what I think is one of these boats?

It's in Clows Top which is only a few miles from Stourport On severn! I was wondering if it'd the same boat? IIRC it's got an Evinrude 70 stuck on the back of it.
The chap who's got it is unsure of what it's worth (needs full refurb). I'm low on work at the mo and fairly handy. I was wondering if you could tell me what it's worth now and if done up? I know nothing of boats, hence me asking, kit cars have always been my thing :-)

I bought one of these today to restore.I am really quite looking forward to it.I thought it was 23 feet so I will have to double check.I do have a couple of questions and they are I am going to definitely need a canopy and a few other parts kike the stern woden rail, as this topic is quite old now has anyone got any information they ciuld share with me at all? Thanks in advance.Here is a pic. and yes it was a barn find.

I am going to need a canopy, wooden stern hand rails and a few odds and sods.
As this thread was started a good while ago I was hoping someone maybe able to shed some more light on these boats as information really seems to be hard to come by and if any folks could advise me on where I may be able to source parts.Thanks in advance.

They certainly seemed to be a rare boat. I can only remember seeing one other on the canal system, but there was one moored by Cobden Bridge in Southampton for some years and one on the river Dee at Chester in the 90's

I think Popular Boats went bust after a few years, but the moulds were purchased by another company who continued to build the boats to a somewhat higher specification.

I lived and worked in Vespasian Road, Southampton and I don't recall Popular Boats. Ron Chambers of Four Maries yard in Vespasian Road built 2 or 3 boats of about 20ft with anout 6ft beam in the 60's but I dont think he exhibited them anywhere.

Hi Yorkermiles....refurbished a Fantasy 20 last year and replaced the canopy top,so now it's redundant,I did not replace the side panels,but you are welcome to the top if you need a Template. FYi based in IrelandIrelandimage.jpgimage.jpg
 
I have a question for you all.
I gave my Fantasy 20 away a couple of years ago as I bought a sailing boat on the Norfolk Broads and could not commit to two boats sadly.
Oddly enough the chap I gave it to including the trailer did not even send an email to thank me but I guess I will have to put that down to experience and know better for next time perhaps lol.
Anyway, the point of my post is that I still have a domain name called Fantasy 20 and did at one time have some photos of what I was doing to her work wise.
I thought it would be a good idea to use that domain to create a website with as much information about these boats as there really seems to be nothing available online at all.
My idea was to do a bit of research hopefully with the help of people online and dedicate the website to this craft so at least there remains some history of the craft for future use and benefit of owners.
Therefore I would like to ask all on this topic if they would permit me to use any photos posted of Fantasy 20s and if anyone has any information about the boats then would they be willing to share the information with me?
I think it would make good use of this redundant domain and also serve a great purpose for potential boat owners and restorers.
I can state that there are some on the Norfolk Broads but I can only think of maybe 2 or 3 that I can recall seeing. Most are in good condition and I was told by a boat yard owner that some even had inboards which surprised me.
What do you think folks?
Good idea maybe and I was thinking a Wordpress website so people could perhaps comment.
I hope this does not violate any terms of use of this forum and I can assure the webmaster that my intentions are genuine.
