Popper fixings for boat cover

Can anyone help? The male part of my cover poppers contain a self-tapping screw which fixes through the outer skin of my GRP boat. Several of them have now pulled out leaving the holes too big and therefore they cannot simply be replaced.
As I can't get at the inside of the skin I cannot do anything to reinforce the hole or attach a nut and bolt fixing.
Has anyone else had this problem and found a cure? I'd be really grateful as there are very few poppers left working!
 
Try Kayospruce, they do the screw in ones and the little plate with a screw hole either side ones. Or You could use a gel coat filler, and squash it in so it forms nubs around the back of the existing hole, then gently drill a new hole when its gone off.

The same thing happened to us in Spain. I filled the holes with gelcoat filler and mixed it so that it would cure very fast (lots of hardener) I then bought new screw in poppers and drilled a small hole, tried the screw in and then drilled a little bigger until it just fitted. Then I put a squirt of silicone sealannt into the holes and tightened up the screws. Hope this helps. They are still in 12 months later.

Best solution would be to replace them with the type which has a base and secures with 2 screws, so you'll be creating new holes for the screws. Google for lift the dot and you'll find loads of suppliers.

No good if he's talking about durable dot fastners

Hardly, he only wants to replace the studs on the boat. Changing to lift the dot would mean messing about with his cover as well, easy if you have the right punches but it doesn’t sound as if he will have.

Although punches for lift the dot fasteners are sold, you don't necessarily need a punch. I've fitted lift the dot sockets without using a punch. After all, this forum is for practical boatowners!
