I have been making my around the boat trying to tidy up and fix a few things that have never been quite right.

It's not really been a priority, but one of these was the sound quality from the radio in the cockpit.
It was okay in the saloon, but "poor" in the cockpit, lacking in bass.

So I took off the cockpit speakers, and removed the top cover:

Fortunately a set of Fusion MS-FR6021's are a drop in replacement.

nice

keep them as if you have a largish hole to fill, you can use them as extra tweeters :D

how many years old are they?

V.

Sony XS-MP1610B from 2010.

I can thoroughly un-recommend them.

Looking through the grill from the outside, I initially thought that the black and white areas were a funky pattern printed on the cone!

Both speakers are the same - the plastic cone material has become incredibly brittle, and just flakes off if you touch it.

If you are blowing speakers like that FP you may want to consider a bank of subwoofers and a few amps and a large generator. You also may wish to publish where you are anchored too to cover H&S noise control . lol. ;) :D :)

Ha ha, I’m more of a Radio 4 listener with maybe a few “tunes” from Capital getting ready to go out to dinner.
It wasn’t a priority because I mostly prefer listening to the sound of the water.

lol, I'm sure i heard someone on R4 once say "Droppeth the Bass" :) ;)

Many suppliers do something called a "custom fit" range which are better speakers which are a direct replacement and tuned to give the best output in the standard housing, they are a straight swap and simply plug straight in; maybe worth a look.

I don’t use the speakers and stereo on the boat. I just use a JBL Bluetooth speaker which IMHO is superior in sound quality and you can move it where you want it.

Thanks, I have already bought a pair of Fusion MS-FR6021 which are exactly the same diameter body, although I will need to make new screw holes.

Any Bluetooth solution would immediately be hijacked, playing "Stormzy" or "Lethal Bizzle" within seconds.

This would be highly undesirable.

If they gave him the job of reading out the Shipping Forecast, they could shrink the time slot.

Small victories!

This time, I managed not to:
- Drill my finger, hand, or arm
- Drop any power tools into the marina
- Drop any screws into "the void"
- Lose the speaker wires in "the void"
- Crack the gelcoat when drilling or screwing
- Drill through any wires
- Snap any drill bits
(All the above have previously happened at one time or another.)

Sound quality is okay, given that they are only 6" speakers with no subwoofer.
