What is the etiquette over availability of shore power? We arrived quite early at Gunwharf Quay over the Easter weekend and plugged ourselves into the last available power connection and duly put on the heater and fridge! We then went out for the rest of the day. When we got back we had been unplugged by someone from Happy Dolphin School of Sailing. Not a great way to teach people how to sail. No message left for us, no apology and not even anyone staying on the boat. Mind you it did look a bit tatty so perhaps the crew had revolted and gone to find a decent place to stay. Not happy.

1 Complain to Gunwharf management.
2 Ditto RYA who register such organisations.
3 Ditto Dolphin School of Sailing - but much more forcibly!

We would rather be next to a boat packed with kids and dogs than a winger any day of the week /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif (Taken from one of your previous posts)

Des, the owner of HD sailing school has permanent berth there - so might feel entitled to plug in not knowing how long you were going to be away for.

As Dolphin Sailing are based in Gunwharf Quay they probably consider themselves as ranking above the ordinary paying punter in the electricity stakes. /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

Did you arrange with GQ staff that you could use the shore power? If so then, as suggested, a strong word with their management would be in order.

hello, trying to find some yacht owners to fill out my questionnaire. I am a student trying to get some primary data on how self sufficent todays yachtsmen are.
It is my thrid year degree project where i am going to find out if the yacthing industry and consumers are interested in hybrid propulsion system. Please reply if you are interested.

Very often in British marinas the sockets are dedicated to the adjacent berth(s), in which case you may have used "his" socket. If that was the case and especially if the electricity is metered, he may have been within his rights, though your plug should have been put in a satisfactory place.

The only time it's happened to me was at Fecamp, by another visitor - British of course, and with no justification, both because of my priority and the fact that there were other plugs, a bit further away. I told the four men on board rather loudly what I thought of them.

I think most on this forum are, they all have sails, thus mainly use renewable energy.

The only time I ever went on a formal sailing course (worst week of my life) with a sailing school; the "instructor" did exactly the same thing.
He seemed to think it was funny.

Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you...

The Third-year degree student of Today!

Can't spell, can't put capital letters or full-stops at the end of sentences and can't work out how to use possibly the most simple forum ever.

Bloody hell.

Catching, isn't it! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Ducks and heads for cover!!

Everyone being too clever at being clever to actually answer you.
What you have unwittingly done is break into a conversation on a different subject. So instead of politely setting you on the correct path, the pack reaction kicks in and all you have been offered is snidey comment.
If no-one else gets hold of themselves before I post this, I suggest you start a new thread outlining what you are asking and perhaps put it in the form of a questionnaire. (thinking about and phrasing your questions VERY carefully, because, if you don't - the rottweillers will come out to play again).
And don't be discouraged - I bet that your parents told you there'd be people like these!

Good,,because I don't 'fill out' surveys for anybody. I may however, if approached with offers of cream buns or a doughnut, fill one in...but not very often.

Its good to be grumpy /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif
