Poole to Weymouth, neaps. Inshore or offshore?

Absolutely, I did say keep it on your Starboard side (sort of).

Fairy Nuff but for the return trip it would be leave to port, safest is pass nearby but offshore of it either way it can be a bumpy little spot too but not too extensive, Going west you can keep close in right to St Albans which avoids most of the rough stuff. We used to round St Albans (Aldhelms) withing apple core throw distance and there is a west going eddy along there to help get there at say -30mins HW Dover,with tide turning westbound usful to use to get a good push past Portland Bill if headed across Lyme bay for pasty/scrumpy land -more important in saily things maybe though,
