Poole to Torquay

We sailed from Weymouth to Dartmouth in a 24 footer. Took 14hrs , mainly motorsailing with a breeze nearly on the nose.
Took the route outside the shambles etc. and straight across Lyme.

The mistake I made was to go into the marina at Weymouth , plan to depart at 6am and then finding the bridge does not open until 8am.
This left my planning a little shot.

I remember being about 4nm South of the bill , doing 5kts through the water and 1k over the ground with the GPS showing an ETE of some 40hrs !

We waited some time before the stream slackened and our SOG got up to something reasonable

I forgot to out for them. Are they still there?
We're in Weymuth now after a very bumpy and wet ride. Will probably hang around to give us a chance to dry out. Certainly don't fancy beating into Westerly across Lyme Bay after yesterdays effort :D

Ref the water pump I've asked "JJ" from Mechanical Services to do the work ( we're on holiday after all) after a recommendation from my lovely next door neighbours who read this forum but as far as I know are too sensible to get involved.
A big Thanks to Simonfa for his local knowledge and chandlery recommendations.
Now in Portland marina which contrary to some reports I've read is a very nice place with lots of business and services on site.

Don't delay, you need to cross before ex. hurricane bertha stirs up the weather, this assumes you are in no hurry to return. My advice is get into Dartmouth which as its own micro climate and cruising ground.

Many a west country cruise ends in Weymouth!

We stopped off at Portland when we bought Kalita back from Plymouth and I was very impressed with the place. Mind it was November so a tad empty. The eatery wasn't open so we had to stroll across to The Cove House Inn (twice as we were storm bound for two days! :encouragement:)
