Setting off tonight to return to the Thames, quick trip tonight over to Cowes, apparently the Cowes Torquay powerboat race is there tonight so should be interesting. Anybody know the best place to squeeze in late at Cowes?

Hope to be in St Kats on Tuesday for a gentle trip up through Teddington on Thursday, then on to the forum rally on Saturday /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Looking forward to getting back on the river, the coast is great but its much friendlier back on the river.
 
Managed to raftup to another motorboat in Shepards, cowes carnival going on and quite an entertaining evening /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
 
OMG! He's on his waay back and the river has been so peaceful with him gone, birds were singing, flowers were flowering and trees were fruiting.

Just got into Sovereign Harbour Eastbourne after a sunny 4hr cruise from Cowes, however I wish the wind would drop, very uncomfortable with a F5 gusting to 6/7 across us. I'd left my mate Mark on the helm while I had a snooze down below, when he shouted down that the rear canopy had come adrift, I went up and resecured it but unfortunately the concentration and motion caught me out and my breakfast put in an unschedled appearance /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif Can't wait to get back to the river now.

Still a few beers in the local holstileries should aid recovery. Harbour is very posh in the middle of nowhere

Finaly have managed to get on the laptop for 5 minutes, have been tucked up on St kats for a couple of nights enjoying the sights of London, we're off up through Teddington tomorrow, collecting the forum flag on the way.

We had a rough journey from Cowes to Eastbourne and the forecast for Monday wasn't any better, Force 5/6 gusting 7! doesn't sound fun in a small boat. So we decided to get up early because the wind wasn't due till lunchtime, still very rough to Ramsgate so after fuel and lunch we decided to push on up the Thames to make the 7pm lock at St Kats. But the wind got up and passing Whitstable and the Medway it was so bumpy we had to slow to 8knts, I didn't realise the estaury could be worse than open sea, but it was foul /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
Still now we were running late so as soon as the water smoothed out in the river around Tilbury we opened to 20knts to get to St Kats, went through the barrier at speed;

However at St Kats there was about 13 boats there already and they couldn't fit us in the lock, but a bit of grovelling and they did a second lock later to let us in

So that was 13 hours from Eastbourne to St kats including 2 hrs in Ramsgate for lunch, we was soorly in need of a beer or two /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Most embarrassing though was overtaking a Birchwood 34 past north foreland, he was plodding at 15knts we were doing over 20, however when the chop got too uncomfortable and we had to slow down and he then came past /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif, the semi-displacement hull was making a much better job of the short waves than Winning Spirits planing hull.

Picked up the forum flag from Teddington Lock today, many bemused looks from UTMYC members who we had come up from St Kats with /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

You should see the looks I got from the anglers when I walked it across the bridge!

Then of course I wondered if carrying a flag to easily identify myself by Ham common was also a good idea....(you will have to think about that one)
