Morning folks - looking for cruising sailing clubs between poole harbour and chichester to go look at. We'll be after a sheltered mooring, dinghy storage, and winters ashore (understand there are waiting lists for various things)

32 footer bilge keeler. 4ft draft

Get those grey cells active, have a think and suggest away. All suggestions very gratefullly received

The RYA has a 'club finder' page and I think Noble Insurance has a club search facility.
Make a list and cross out the dinghy -only clubs and the inland ones, you'll be left with a big list.
It might be useful to work out whether you are prepared to be miles from the actual sea like Fareham or Eling, in order to save a few quid.
Some of these clubs are really looking for participating local members, not out of town people just wanting a cheap deal. Ideally you want to join a club where you fit in.

In many clubs, winter space ashore is limited or non existent, so you may need to consider commercial shoreside.
In that case, it's worth finding out whether you can get insurance on the mooring 12 months of the year.

I joined Marchwood Y C 2 years ago. Facilities probably the best in the country. How many clubs have a 14 ton travel hoist? Dinghy and outboard storage. Trot moorings and Pontoons for short stay, and Winter storage. The only down side from my point of view is that being at the top of Southampton Water means an 8 mile trip to get to the Solent. Marchwood is a DIY club and every member is required to do 2 work days each year 09.00 to 13.00 on a Saturday.

Hardway, in Portsmouth Harbour, about 20 minutes from the entrance. A drying pontoon on deep mud that will take deep fins for most of its length. Well sheltered from SW, friendly people, decent facilities and probably the cheapest bar for miles. Dead men's shoes for moorings, but there are commercial moorings locally.

Royal Southern YC or RAF on the Hamble. Both have private moorings and access to a wide range of Harbour Master and commercial ones too. Then there are the 5 marinas. Brilliant place to sail from and always something going on, which means it is both popular and not the cheapest.

Portchester Sailing Club. Everything you ask but a waiting list for winter storage and for the better (nearer) moorings. Work party day once per year. Looking for participants rather than mooring holders.

thank you everyone - reviewing stuff this weekend although shifting to a club might be difficult with coronavirus

if you don't mind I might pm a few for a quick chat about clubs

thank you

Nick
