I'm looking to visit Poole for one (Weekday) night in a couple of weeks time and looking to stay in a marina that has shower, facilities, etc.

Any recommendations? (I'd rather not pay for the nose at Salterns, though) I draw 1.4m and want access 24/7.

Many thanks

Just try Poole Quay Boat Haven. They are geared up for visitors and are right in the centre of town. I have used them a couple of times, even though I moor in Poole harbour anyway. It is just a nice spot when you have got guests on board. You can go into town straight from your boat. You will need to book ahead I should think, even on a weekday.

For a first time visit and one night it has to be the Dolphin Haven at Poole Town Quay. The shower block is across a public road but worth it once you get there, within the marina there are a few toilets.

Poole Quay Haven

I went there 2 weeks ago. £35 for 33' boat. Showers were filthy and stone cold. In the office their response when I mentioned it was "We don't charge for the showers so nothing we can do".

Very expensive and lousy attitude by the staff. I would stay clear if at all possible

Parkstone Yacht Club take visitors, avoid Weds Race night. Not cheap due to extra cost of harbour dues , as at Dolphin Quay.

Cobbs Quay is I think cheaper than most and excellent shower block last time I weas there, admittedly 3 or 4 years back. Quite a way out of town though

It's a shame some have had a bad experience at Poole Quay. I've used it about three times and it has been excellent each time. My boat is only 20ft so doesn't cost much anywhere. The quay can get noisy at night, but it can even be noisy anchored over on the Purbeck side if there is an amplified wedding bash on Sandbanks. I haven't used Cobbs Quay so can't comment on its quality, but remember that it is on the "wrong side" of the lifting bridge, which may or may not be a nuisance to you.

Another option is Poole Yacht Club, if they have a vacancy. Haven't been for a while myself, but used to be slightly more expensive, but clean and quiet - newly refurbished showers and toilets. It's only a ten minute walk from the quay over the bridge. Make sure you can rig a blackout, though, as the floodlights from the Ro-Ro terminal are invasive.

Call "PYC" on VHF.

Rob.

Odd that, just this last weekend the swmbo and I were reminiscing about cruises, her main recollection of the marina was the excellent shower block that seemed newly opened two years ago.

Not bad advice the staff there are noticeably low caliber and there are too many of them loafing about, perfect reflection of Poole Harbour Commisioners as a whole. Yet another local quango due for a organizational make-over (read good kicking) by the new Government.

dolphin haven positives - easy access to town and when we stayed showers etc were good ,

negatives - most expensive marina we have ever stayed in - too expensive - when we commented to the marina stand staff at soton boat show they were adamant that it was not - when probed further they explained their reasoning as being that the charges included harbour dues which were nothing to do with them - when challenged further they then admitted that the owners of dolphin haven are poole harbour commisioners - my point that as a consumer it is the total cost that registers with me and it is irrelevant to me what pots they put my money in internally and that the total makes them the most expensive marina we have ever stayed in got no response - what a shame that the town quay has been overpriced too - compare the cost of staying on the town quay with the charges at lymington/yarmouth/etc etc and poole is horribly expensive - shame as used to be a good place to visit

Cleaners are in daily.

Have seen them.

Well after the event: I stayed at Poole Quay Boat Haven for a couple of nights.

Thought it was great, berthing was good, the others seemed friendly, the staff OK and the facilities scrupulously clean.

Will be happy to go back there anytime. (Even though berthing cost a little more there than elsewhere)

Cobbs has good facilities, and is peaceful, but its a taxi ride into town. And when you come into the marina, the dredged channel is ONLY right in front of the finger pontoons. Dont cut across or you will be yet another unhappy punter !

Must have been after I had a shower there, 2 weeks ago :)

Spotless, ample hot water, no complaints. Staff seemed helpful and friendly, but then I had nothing to complain of, unlike the visit the previous year: I was in the shortstay berth at the entrance, and was sideswiped by a Baltic Trader trying to enter in a F7 without a tug: caught my rigging and nearly ripped the mast out. The Marina Staff were falling over themselves to be helpful. Mind you they were under the eagle eye of a large and formidable looking Senior harbour Patrol Officer who had witnessed the accident and was making sure nobody tried to short change me....

Those showers at Poole quay have not been working all summer long. I think its a disgrace bearing in mind its the most expensive marine I've stayed in. Last time we were in poole we stayed at parkstone, on a weds night, great atmosphere, friendly club and good food and beer. A lot quieter than the haven too...

Facilities are good but avoid the Clubhouse restaurant.

Don't understand the comment about the dredged channel. All the fingers are removed before dredging to ensure consistent depths. However not all pontoons are dredged each year.

Well, when you are entering the marina, there is a pole just off the pontoons. Dont cut across that, as there isnt any water ! IE, its like a T junction...Given the number of boats I ve seen stuck there, I guess it isnt that obvious to visitors.
