Poole Marina - Are they taking the p!"ss or what

I did once see a picture of the ice cream sellers in that part of the world which would soothe the pain somewhat :)

Moored on a pontoon there a couple of weeks ago, not my boat, delivering for owner, so wasn't having to put my hand in my own pocket. However, I will say that it was a great place to stay and there is an element of "you get what you pay for"

I think our Wives are walking buddies. if we'd known you were in our neck of the woods we'd have raided your fridge (again)

Will certainly let you know when we are next in your part of the world. You would be more than welcome to come and assist with the contents of the fridge/s
Look forward to it.

They are all roughly in a similar ball park, 25p up or down from one place to the next isn't going to make that big a difference in the scheme of things.. Mooring fees in general on the south coast are obscene IMO but as said it's supply and demand. Unless someone creates a humongous marina (or chain of marinas) and undercuts everyone else causing them to loose business it's not going to change but that's never going to happen either..

The only way to reduce your costs is to reduce your boat size which is what we did.. Last year we went from an 8M sports cruiser to a 7M Merry Fisher that has exactly the same facilities and accommodation on board just in a smaller package (can sleep 4, have a small heads and a small galley area plus inside and outside seating).. Doesn't sound like a big change but in terms of cost it's huge..

So a night in Poole at £4/m would be £28 which isn't bad especially when we could say it's paid for by the reductions in annual costs..

Our annual fees have nearly halved.. Dry stack for the 8M was about £2800 off the top of my head and keeping the new boat on a trailer in the boatyard in the summer for convenience and in the driveway over the winter will be about £1450 for the season.. No anti-fouling to pay for.. We burn about 0.9L/nm at 25kn so it's relatively cheap to run by comparison.. It's significantly reduced our annual costs and having the pilothouse has actually made our boating more comfortable.. For us it was a real winner..

IMHO Yes.
32' Yarmouth £29 inc electricity Sunday night
Poole Town quay £42 Monday night
Consecutive nights early April

I did ask if they had made a mistake. That said the staff were great when I arrived with one engine overheated and needed a simple berth, when they all turned out to help with my lines.

Does seem that because they have placed a Banana Wharf next to the marina for would be boaters to look at the lovely boats whilst they dine, they reverse the logic and charge the boaters as would be Banana Wharfers for the privilege of forming part of the view.

I vaguely recall the marina was intended to improve everyone's lot when visiting. Not sure they mentioned the £42 per night part. I enjoyed my time on the wall, indeed it was my very first port of call ever on a yacht.
