Poole Lifting Bridges & Cobbs Quay

I believe Davis's is a bit cheaper than Cobbs, but IMHO inferior and a bit scruufy. Each to his own of course.

How delightfully patronising.:D

The main difference is it is family run, not a faceless corporate entity. I understand they have recently had complete new pontoons fitted with new electricity etc. so I would imagine it is very smart.

Definitely worth a look

I recall walking though Davis a few months back, mostly shingle and loose stone gravel - not nice smooth tarmac like Cobbs.

I would not wish to park my Porsche there.

NO FUEL AT COST AND NO FREE NIGHTS AT OTHER MARINAS.

The fact is that Cobbs is a 5 Star Marina - Davis is a yard- i think that is what it is called
"Davis Boat Yard".

Nothing against it or the family who own it.

"Faceless corporate entity" - i dont know about that - but the staff at Cobbs could not be more helpful.

BTW - i used to berth at Poole Boat Park, a small family run mostly drystack operation, until it was closed down by Poole Council to make way for the Twin Sails Bridge.

I wouldn't park my Bentley at Cobbs - it would get scratched by all the kids running round the car park:D

Just had a quote from Davis's which was very competitive so I think I'll pay both marinas a visit and try to get a feel for them.

I'm quite looking forward to having the convenience of keeping the boat in the water rather than drystack. Hopefully, I'll be able to have a few beers on board in the summer after work. It's not really an option when the boat is 8' in the air on a trailer!

Well, I happily park my Morgan in Davis's. The parking area for the pontoon is hard surfaced. The only downside is that the access channel to the west is a bit restricted in width. Otherwise there is little to justify paying the premium to be in Cobbs. The difficulty you may find even in these straitened times is actually getting a berth.

Well, my Porsche has remained scratch free for the past three years so your assertion is a bit wide of the mark i would suggest.

Can you please tell us all the outright quotes from the 2 marinas and the one yard . Ta.

I covered the issue in a recent issue of MBM. Personally the saving is worth the hassle, as Poole Council promise that it will be working smoothly in 2013. Your boat will fit under the bridge easily, and since they have a screen telling you the current air clearence they make it as easy as possible. Try a season, if it doesn't work, then go back.

Good luck what ever you do!

Yeh, right, working smoothly in 2013. Broke down again yesterday I'm told!

How about some good investigative journalism to reveal the complete shambles the 'Twin Fails Bridge' is. Must be some good N.O.W journalists out there, that MBM could hire.

I see, nothing less than a Porche allowed at Cobbs. I'd better move to Davis's withe rest of the hoi paloi!

NO DRYSTACK AT DAVIS;

the thought of your boat living in the water would do your head in !! And think of all that polishing you wouldnt be able to do. You would would not be a happy moboer.

Ah we'll just have to stay at Cobbs amongst the aristocracy .

Seriously, it is a great place to keep a boat, and agree with you, all the staff are great.
