The nice folks of Bradwell Cruising Club are a welcoming bunch.

In company with David 2452 we had a jaunt down to Bradwell on Saturday, its been a couple of years since I have been; always found the Marina Staff friendly and accommodating. It was also a good opportunity to check The Green Man was still OK :)

If like me you have not a pontoon party seen in the flesh let me explain.......... its a great way to introduce new members.

All boats participating are dressed so that they can be seen (I can see why as the afternoon goes on), then a bit like a Shotgun Golf start each group starts on a different yacht. Every half hour to the sounds of hooters the group move round. This started at 13.00pm and by the official finish time of 16.00pm those that started on A pontoon had just reached the yacht with us on F pontoon were ... well perhaps ready for a sit down :) A BBQ at 6.00pm followed, a great day looked to be had by all with al funds going to the RNLI. The folks kindly invited us to take part but we sent our SWMBO's so they would have some 'refreshments' left.

Thanks Bradwell an enjoyable weekend.

As visitors it was a very friendly welcome, but a great idea if you were a new member of the club that wanted to get to know folks.

Hospitality returned if you are on the visitors linear pontoon at Shotley, we moor on the other side of it. Fell free to call by I will break the seal on the bonded locker :)

Certainly was a colourful sight with all the buntin and flags as we pulled in just before 1700 after a drift up from the Medway. As already said a very warm welcome from everyone at Bradwell.
We ate in the marina bar, and all 10 of us that came up from Lower Halstow had a really enjoyable weekend. The sail home was near on perfect with the NE breeze, once clear of the spitway, taking us straight down to the Medway and down Stangate creek to our moorings.

colourful sight with all the buntin and flags .

Not that we do flag etiquette on the East Coast, personally I struggle with 'misuse' of the Union and St George's Flags albeit unintentionally I am sure.

A British Warship will fly a Union Jack at the bows when alongside / anchor or the Monarch is on board at sea. St George's Flag indicates a full Admiral on board so indicate certain marks of respect from a Service boat.

But as you say a colourful sight.

And the Union Flag is the right way up too!
