Pontoon Insurance

I have always inured my River Hamble pile mooring pontoon with an add on to my boat policy, but this year the insurer wants £100 which is a lot more than previously and seems OTT. The Harbour authority insist on insurance so can anyone make any recommendations. I don't particularly want to move my whole boat insurance provider just to accommodate the pontoon. Am wondering if there are insures who will cover the pontoon only?

How much would it cost to replace the piles and pontoon? What is the level of risk of damage / write off? Why should it be an add on to your boat policy, which is a completely different type of risk? TBH £100 / year does’t sound out of order to me.

I have in the past added to my own insurance then found out the other side of the pontoon being a shared mooring was not insured !
In other words I was picking up the whole tab.
Mooring operator was told to sort it out under own insurance as I was paying them a fee.
Nuff said really.

Pants added £50 to my insurance to cover mine. Perhaps time to shop around .... Pants. are expensive but their service is excellent and claims handling team are straightforward to deal with.

I'd say £50 or even £100 is pretty inexpensive, given that if you insure the pontoon via a separate policy you can expect to pay a lot more than that.
