Pontoon Bashing

I can't remember 'effect' being used in the sense of 'affect'. To effect something normally means to make it happen, or bring into effect, normally applied to a verb or verb clause. To affect somebody or something is to have an effect on them, usually a person or something concrete, such as "El Nino affects our weather", or for Americans "impacts our weather".
You need to hang around with younger people they seem to use effect and affect interchangably.

Spanish although t spoken as it’s written has lots of complicated rules and in general they take three times as long to say or write the same as in Enlishhence Don Quixote is a thick book. But going by my wife the schools actually teach Spanish and when my gf was at uní Spanishwas the chosen language to understand structure of language……..and my wife is better at Wordle than I!😂

Both of us are really enjoying learning Spanish but 8 million ways to conjugate verbs isn't a thrill....

Guy I knew taught for the lamented Southern Sailing School under John Goode . . .

Don't know whether it was your mate instructing, but I did a Coastal Skipper course (alongside a couple of blokes prepping for their Yachtmaster Ocean Exam following) with Southern Sailing `School many years ago, and was very well satisfied. I had a whale of a time (despite it being the depths of winter) and learnt so much. I can't imagine how it could have been better.

No impacts, but it was made clear that while they hoped to avoid damage to the boat (a Contessa 32), they weren't too precious about it, and said that we shouldn't be afraid of making mistakes. (The boat survived our week unscathed.)

The Instructor was (then) a young chap, who IIRC owned a Sigma he chartered out.
