Not been a big fan of the football since sailing entered my life about 15 years ago. Used to go to the football quite often then. And always enjoyed it.

As I keep my boat in portsmouth now I've always promised myself I would go to fratton park on a wet saturday afternoon, when it's a bit yuk out on the water.

How easy is it to get tickets for a match nowadays ? Or can you just turn up on the day.

i think now they're in the premiership you have to ring up first if you want a game

Don't think you'll see much football at Fratton Park.

Try berthing at Shamrock Quay and go to St Mary's* /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif

Someone had to say it............

Seconded !

I heard Pompey were staying in the Premiership for 4 seasons.
Summer, Autumn, Winter and Spring ....

Trouble is the bugger's are still there and there actually higher up than Saints at the moment.

Early days yet though.

Why do Pompey people call Southampton people 'scummers'? Is it purely derogatory or is there a historical story there?

We call them scummers too.

I think it dates back to rivalries between the two docks.
Portsmouth was always the home of the Royal Navy and Southampton hosted the merchant navy including the cruise ships.

Don't really know any more than that I'm afraid.

It must be a historical thing, though I don't know it's provenance; it's probably a response to what gets sung before every match at St Mary's (a delightful little ditty about whether to support Pompey or Saints, sung to the tune of "Que sera sera" and including advice to reach for your father's gun /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif).
