Need to rebed some windows and looking at lifecaulk polysulfide sealant. Sikaflex would never come apart again and silicon isn't the way to go I don't think. Frames are ali fitted to painted steel. But 17 quid a tube from mailspeed!!!! Is there a similar polysulfide product from B&Q or somewhere?

Chap in Sevenoaks who sells double-sided glued neoprene to bed them on, I think - followed his recommendations and no trouble since

I use Sikaflex 291 these days for most bedding tasks, and it does come apart if needed. It's also conveniently available in white as well as black, and is not expensive (7 to 8 pounds).
By comparison if you use 3M 5200, you will never get that apart....I stopped using that some time ago, although it's very good stuff.....

Cheers,
Paul

Wonder if you mean 'Life Seal' rather than 'Life Caulk'.

Life Seal is the one for bedding windows and is a Polyurethane/Silicone hybrid. It stays glossy when dry and probably better UV protection. Life Caulk is , I think, more designed for underwater work.

Would also like to know cheaper alternatives though.

If you want to use polysulphide, it's available from ScrewFix. I'm a fan of it for below waterline fittings, but would choose a a suitable silicone for windows etc. The polyurethanes (sika etc) are great adhesives/sealants but can be horrific if you need to remove something later.

Life caulk is the one i've used before, polysulphide. Seem to work well but may be a case of better the devil you know. Think I'll try the b&q stuff, lots cheaper anyway, less temptation not to put lots on.

Suggest you contact these folks, gave me excellent advice and mail order service when I was refurbishing a window. They sell a range of sealant materials both neoprene seals and bedding materials.
