I spent a weekend sailing on a boat belonging to one of the forum users.

The skipper after getting us all to introduce ourselves and break the ice said that Politics and religion were not to be discussed on board. Given the fact that Forum users come from widely different social backgrounds religions political leanings etc etc I think it was a good idea.

Unfortunately as much as I agree its a good idea its easy to get me to break the rule /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I have revised my crewing politics and am now going to emulate mr Bligh just in case I get some mumbo jumbo sprouting person on board.
I will tolerate politics if there is no voting or dissent mind you subversion might get you a flogging.

"mind you subversion might get you a flogging. "

Thats not fair. Why do I get flogged if your crew are subversive??

Sorry meant them.
Anyway I dont have any crew left after the rigorous selection procedure this weekend. So am back in the market for non mumbo jumbo or political sprouting crew who must smoke and show respect to the skipper.

Acshully I've got a no holds barred boat, anybody can talk about anything .. apart from rude things .. don't mind a good stimulating discussion and anyone that takes the huff do'nt get asked again unless they're a good guy anyway and we can take the mickey out of them .. password to crewing on GR is "I hate to disagree with you but!"

If you get a mumbo jumbo guy on board when the proverbial hits the fan he might fall to his knees instead of lowering the sail. The politico might want to take a vote as to who is going to lower the sail.

As was pointed out to me by people on the forum the consensual approach is a weak and wooly one. I have come to see the error of my ways.

We 'calibrate' any new crew. Provided they can give and take a bit of stick, don't drink half pints and aren't too tidy they generally come up to scratch. So far we've only had one crew who we couldn't calibrate, think he had a wonky spring or something.

I noticed that some of your crew appear to get very well"calibrated". /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
