Evening all,

Need some help polishing my boat, Its a Bayliner 185 that has been left out in the sun for years and its looking dull,

I have bought a clarke Orbital polisher, some regular G3 compund and some auto glym super resin polish.

I have a dark blue strip around the boat that was turning white, I have managed to bring the blue back and polish all the white area's But.... I just cannot get a brilliant shine... What am i doing wrong?

I have applied G3 the the polisher using the buffing bonnet, i work on one area at a time roughly 2-3ft then i wipe of polish and apply the super resin polish with the wax pad on the polisher... then wipe with cloth for the finish.

I still cant the get a brilliant shine?!

What am i doing wrong?

Regards

James

You could try a search on the topic...

I am worried about over polishing and going through the get coat....

Ive never polished anything btw

G3 thats your problem, get some super duty rubbing compound or from Farecla

http://www.farecla.co.uk/automotive/compounding-systems/fast-track-coarse-compound

It is a 1.2.3 process

1 super duty rubbing compound
2 Farecla fine rubbing compound
3 wax

You can add stages between those as well but 3 times is bad enough, trust me I just had to hand polish the blue strip on a massive HR. get soft foam pads for stage 2 ;-)

It depends on your polisher. If it is the 2 handed variety, then it is probably not turning far enough BUT, if you get the long body type of polisher you will need a spray water applicator and with G3 you can burn the gel coat in a few seconds if you don't know what you are doing.
