Polishing the Mast

I know the Z-Spar chaps of old, and they wouldn't give duff advice knowingly. I would avoid the T-Cut though. Pure Aluminium does not corrode, it's the extra stiffening ingredients that do, and need the anodising to stop it. This layer is terribly thin, and even mild abrasives like T-Cut remove it a bit at a time.

This is an old post, but has anyone tried water free car cleaner/polish, and if so, how did it turn out? There are a number of manufacturers. Williams, which is frequently promoted on Ideal World, is probably the best known, although review sites rate it only average.

I've read all the way through this thread without noticing its age - 11 years.
Generally I avoid excessive cleaning of painted or other finished objects although I have polished my car once or twice. I read once that each time you polish, some of the paint is removed so you're causing damage.
The black anodised mast on my last boat was quite dull but it never occurred to me to polish it - always better things to do.

Never tried it on a mast but went over all the boat with it during the lockdown should be ok on mast as its a wax polish
