Last year I had one set of shrouds replaced and the bottle screws are Gibb. They started out lovely and shiny. Now, about 18 months later the surface is pitted and there is greenish debris on the surface. I understand that the screws are made of brass and are chrome plated - of course I may be wrong. Now I have had the rest of the rigging replaced I have another 2 sets of bottle screws. They are currently nice and shiny

Can I get the older screws shiny again? Will metal polish simply remove the chrome?

How can I keep the new screws shiny?

Thanks

TS

They're bronze not brass. You can have the chrome removed electrochemically and then polish but you'll have to keep at it or they'll turn green again. On mine I don't bother. They look a bit scruffy but the boat is for go not for show.
