Pole reversal in december

With the forcasted north/south magnetic pole reversal and the earth altering of it rotational direction etc. on December 21 I have several questions.

1) how will this effect navigation by sextant seeing the stars and sun in differing posikns tobefore

2) will our compass point to south instead of north

3) will gps plotts alter

Any views?
 
what's the source for this information please ?


Are you suggesting that the magnetic poles will 'flip' over one single day ? I have a distinct impression that pole reversal takes a little longer than that.

I'm more worried about how it will affect Father Christmas. Apparently, the change in magnetic flux lines might cause Rudolph's nose to stop glowing, as this depends on a stable relationship between the sleigh and the direction of the solar wind as it is deflected by the Earth's poles.

This is giving grave cause for concern. Can the RYA help?:confused:

However, I'm still worried about Santa if it were to happen. I had enought trouble convincing him to land at our rented house in N Wales last year when the grandchildren were staying with us - flare paths, landing lights and all that sort of stuff. Compass deviation might mess things up completely....
 
I would not worry about the earth spinning the other way because as the spinning starts to slow down, we will all go flying off into space, so best to get some breathing equipment and sit in your yachts ready for the event on April the 1st.
Ps. Not sure what will happen to people in planes at the time.

I understand that pole reversals have happened every 100k years or so since the world began (this is clearly shown by the rocks bordering tectonic plates), but it has always spun the same way.

But I can only recall a couple of pole changes as my memory is not what it was. :confused:

Surely we're all going to be squashed as the centripetal force diminishes near the equator. The sea will probably slop about a bit too.

On this matter he is correct, we are indeed, completely, 100% made of space dust, irrevocably so.

if it is the end of life on earth I can do nothing to stop it so will ignore this possibility and carry on as usual

This is not funny do you feel we should celebrate Xmas early this year? I'd hate to spend out on all that food and not eat it
instead of throwing it away after the 26th

So now that certain annihalation is going to happen surely it is time for those on the right to repent their crimes against humanity and join the Comrades in an uprising to ensure that on the eve of destruction all are equal under a glorious marxist regime?

Preliminary test flights have shown there may indeed be a problem ;
