I’m in the process of buying a UK registered sailing yacht, 12m loa. As I’m resident in Poland, a polish registration makes sense. I speak next to no Polish.

Does anyone have experience of the process, has done it all themselves or used an agent?

Very grateful for any experiences, recommendations, advice…

This is purely my own opinion and could be wrong.

Polish Registration - when checking online to see how to do it - Agents sites come up and offer to do whole process ... at a fee of course.

I tend to think that Agents are more for those who are not resident and need the services. Or for those who do not have the time to do it themselves.

If resident and have the time - I would enquire and do the job myself ... I would expect that one document you will need to provide to new register that very few mention : The De-Registration Certificate of the Vessel from previous register .....

I cannot advise on the process - as I used Swedish International ... but I did look at Polish before going Swedish.

Is the boat located in Poland? or elsewhere in the EU? Are you a UK citizen? Is the boat registered on the SSR or Part 1? Suggestions on where and how to register may depend on the answers.

Thanks all for answers. The boat is currently in Greece and will be mostly in the EU, so the Polish registration is a definite decision, I’m just looking for the best way to do it.

@Graham376 I’ll check out the online process, and many thanks for the link. I’d not heard about the proposed changes

If the boat is on Part 1 of the UK register it is probably easier and cheaper to get it transferred to you. Having UK registration does not affect usage in the EU as it its VAT status that governs its freedom of circulation, not its registration or ownership.

However within Schengen there is no need to clear customs etc for an EU flagged boat, so that makes life a bit easier
