I am looking for a set of plans to build an 18ft or there abouts pocket yacht for coastal crusing and inland water I can't find one from a recognised design team that suits my requirements, I have found a design on the web which looks good I would like to modify the beam the plans are in CAD format so ajustments can be made but how will the boat fair when launched can anyone help with resorces to help on stability and seaworthyness or can anyone sugest a design that has a 7' beam and LOA 18' with 2/4 berths for plywood stich and tape construction

Best regards

Years ago I built a Lysander 17 foot bilge keel sloop designed by percy Blandford.

The design is double chine plywood over frames and stringers .It can be stretched to 19 foot by spacing the frame stations out.I cant see any reason not to do a stitch and tape job.

I think from memory the beam was 6 ft 8 inches or there abouts.

The Lysander is an old design with bilge keels to give about 2 foot draft.Very stable and mine had 4 full size berths by using quarter berths .The standard design is 2 berth.

With a decent set of sails she sails well.I did some coastal cruising in mine eg Cardiff to Milford Haven ,Ilfracombe ,Sharpness and Bristol. She allways got us home safely despite us sailing in conditions that we should not have in so small a boat.
Best of Luck. To build and sail your own boat gives a huge sense of satisfaction but dont underestimate the huge commitment of time and money even a small boat is.
