I'm looking for chart plotting software I can run on a Pocket PC running Windows Mobile 2003 SE that has 64Mb RAM and slots for SD memory cards. The Pocket PC has a built in GPS as it was purchased originally as a car sat nav package. I've searched Google and have only come up with Maptech using theor Memory map S/W which seems to be optimised for a PC but has Pocket PC capability. You have to buy the mapping s/w and then the charts. Does anyone have any better solutions that they use?

You might try C-emap who, I think, are part of the C-map people. When I was investigating that as a possibility for my Pocket PC they weren't happy about its operation with Dell Axim or similar dual-slot types - but they were working on it!
The last time I was in contact with them was more than six months ago.
Try: www.c-emap.it/support.asp
I'd be interested to hear how you get on.
Good Luck, Colin.

I've got memorymap on my pocket pc. Chart folios are about £100 from memory, I used the Thames one which streatched from Dover to Holland, with detailed chartes of most rivers etc off the thames. Worked well for me, you get UK roadmap with the cd as well which can come in handy. Software bit limited and screen obviously small but still usable. You can create routes, waypoints etc. I found the a-z of london very useful as well. If you ever get lost in London that is. Another must for pocket pc's is Belfield tide plotter. The 20quid option does up to 2008 from Norway to Gibralter.

I use Pathaway (on a Palm, but is also for PPC)

I like it because you scan in paper charts, at no cost (I used a hp scanjet 4670 so you can see what you are doing).

I had no problems doing this and have used it very successfully (very accurate) to navigate around the shallows behind the German East Friesian Islands this summer.

Lots of different views and you can customise what data you see.

The software licence is only 32 quid too, you can trial it for 15 days first

Well I'm converted anyway! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Ozi-Explorer is also in CE version - but you must first register and install on PC Ozi-Explorer main program. It's cheap enough and extremely versatile. (I'm not a great lover of Ozi-Ex on the PC - but the CE version is about the best IMHO).

The beauty of Ozi-Ex is that it is able to use BSB (Maptech's) NOAA, and other formats as well as scanned own charts. The main PC program with its add-on converts to CE compatible format and then uploads to Pocket PC .....

Here is a screen shot of Ozi-Ex CE on my Jornada .......
