We had another great meal last Saturday at the "Thai House" 63 Notte St near the Barbican when we took youngest back to Uni.

We also went to the "Meze Grill" Sutton Harbour, the Barbican and had the Meze set meal which was good and too much , the boy has the rest in his fridge, the Steak boards looked good and the architecture is very interesting.

Agreed. Ate at the meze last week also with son at uni. He raves about a curry place nearby that does all you an eat for £4.95 on a Monday.

Pasta house very good ( one street behind watering hole ) very good also

That will be the Ganges, the decor is like going back 20 years, but don’t ever go there out of term time when it’s not busy.
They poisoned me with a meat samosa that was as high as a kite

Hello everyone! Many thanx on sharing your opinions on places to go in Plymouth, I am going there on a business trip so that's why I decided to look up for the information in advance! TY for your posts!

The Royal William Yard Harbour area has several new eateries. Good location. You can get there by boat or tender (short stay, four hours, £5+).

Seco Lounge
Good variety of food, we liked the tapas, but it can be noisy.

Prezzo
Usual pizza/pasta offerings, but our meal took 45 mins to be served

Royal William Bakery
It looks good, and the food smelt good, but it was closing as we got there. Anyone tried it?

River Cottage Canteen
Friends from Mayflower said it offered small portions at expensive prices. Can't judge, haven't been there yet.

The best fine dining in town must be Tanners. Excellent food and service and whilst not budget, it is certainly very good value for money. A good 3 course set menu for £25. Having been a regular visitor to Plymouth over the last 3 years and struggled to find good food (daughter at University there) I only discovered Tanners when I went to her graduation today!!

Owned by the same Tanner brothers but with prices much lower is the Barbican Kitchen, excellent food and service and a nice atmosphere.

Chloe's is also excellent; we alternate between Chloe's and Tanners. See Chloe's here: http://www.chloesrestaurant.co.uk/

Been to Shirley Valentines (website uses same name) a couple of times.
Very good and reasonably priced.
Just off the Barbican near the Elizabethan Garden.

Greek and Turkish influenced food

+1 we've been there a few times. Very nice cooking and lovely staff.
Worth booking at weekends.

Devonport Inn, Cawsand

This pub ought to be good but it's not. We made the mistake of visiting this week and was served an off pint, that's okay, bad things happen, the key thing is how it is resolved. I reported the off pint to the barmaid who after tasting herself agreed it was off but then offered no apology, no replacement or no refund. I'd taken two sips off the top of the pint before rejecting it. We left at that point, never to return. It's in a fabulous position, just behind the beach, but it's not good. The halfway house inn is much better. Tripadvisor also reports poor reviews for the Devonport, shame.

The pubs in Kingsand are better... There is one just on the quayside... Can't recall it's name... That is excellent...

do you mean the Cross Keys in Cawsand: http://goo.gl/maps/n4azg?

Hahaha! Looking at it now the one I am reffering to is the devonport..

I thought you were reffering to the one off the beach at Cawsand... We're we we're dissapointed a few years ago... We had a few drinks and a bite at the devonport very shortly after the redo in 2010, and thought it was excellent!

The prices on the drinks were very reasonable... Less than our local here.

Oh well, Must have gone downhill!

There are a couple of nice ones up the hill a bit...
