Now thats uncalled for, mine is a very sea worthy boat thank you and if you dont believe me ask Byron. Just seen the wink Ian, where does one get those thingies from ?
"The Med has got me" (no not the Medway the other Med)
Would not think its a problem to get train to S/hampton. We've done it back to manchester a few times.
Approches to Plymouth quite easy, although some daft buggers do attempt to go over the break water!! Actualy its quite hard to see at high tide.
From the East theres a pyramid shaped island at the entrance, name escapes me for the moment. Anyway, miss that and carry on west a bit before turning in. Then look for a rock on starboard side, ahead,It has a light on top. keep to port of it, then go round sboard side of breakwater. Its all very easy in good light and calm seas. Loads of room and deap water most anywhere. Dont go to the west of Drakes island less you know the passage through the "Bridge" Concrete spikes sticking up all over the place. Take no notice of most of the buoys, there only for big ships.
Course you will have a chart and pilot book I suppose.
Long as you go round one or tother side of break water, no problems at all.

That rocks might well be the Mewstone, off the Yealm....
If ever the phrase 'battleship courses' applied it is to Plymouth - most sizes of warship (certainly everything in the RN) can get in and out. I suspect it's worth keeping a listening watch for the QHM as on the odd occasion the Navy is allowed to use it's ships they do place restrictions on Asia pass (and to a lesser extent Smeatons I recall). Watch out for the divers off Bovisand too....
Ah, thats it, the mewstone. Trouble is, they got that many mewstones down there, I get them mixed up. Anyway it's more of an island than a rock. I've given up bothering about the battle ships buggering about. There worse than the raggies. Never know which way there going to go next. Also given up on the Long Room. If you ask them for information they just treat you like a pillock. Best method is just to steam in and out at 20+ knots and if you see the police boat. Go the other way! If there training some one, you get loads of abuse. If not they take no notice. Funny lot.
