Hi All

From force of habit I suppose, I'm considering launching my 20ft trailer sailer at QAB Marina, leaving the car and trailer there for the weekend while I sail to Dartmouth and back.

Am I missing a trick, are there perhaps other equally wide slipways with secure parking?

No, I don't think you will find better though you may be able to do it cheaper.

QAB is easy to trail to, the flat parking is adjacent, it is very secure, it's on the right side of town for you and handy for all local facilities. I would stick with it, all the alternatives will be lacking one way or the other - except perhaps cost.

I'd agree with that., although I would phone Plymouth Yacht Haven and see what secure parking they can offer. There is a very large public slipway just a few hundred meters away in Mountbatten.

I've used PYH and as others have said the slipway there is public and free. They didn't charge me to keep the trailer, but on that occasion I was paying for a berth during the regatta......

On another occasion I had the pleasure of visiting Tamar River Sailing Club and using their facilities. Their entrance and slipway is a bit tighter but I managed to get my trimaran in and out there and they only made a very nominal charge for keeping the trailer safe for the week I was away. I found them a really friendly and helpful small club and I'd much rather do business with them than the larger organisations. I don't know if they regularly receive "guests" (they were hosting the Jester when I was there) but it might be worth a phone call.....

Hi Triassic
Thanks for the reply, but I think Tamar river is a little further than I would want to be; around an hour or so. Much as I prefer to use a sailing club as opposed to a commercial organisation!

There is one almost opposite QAB under the battery itself. We used to use it happily. Quite steep with a 90 deg bend half way down, so your reversing has to be good. Car park at the top, but not sure I'd want to leave it there for a week. May be worth a look though?

Hi KAL - Thanks

Not the best then.....

I am more than a little nervous of security of car and trailer over the weekend!
