As a follow on from the Falmouth Live aboard thread where in Plymouth are there good liveaboard areas ??

Interesting thread.
I am not looking to liveaboard in Plymouth but my boat is there and I am looking to reduce my mooring costs , so the alternatives to the normal marinas will be usefull.

I had my boat on a swinging mooring owned by Torpoint yacht harbour for a month, a couple of years ago. There appeared to be some liveaboards in the harbour itself.

We've lived aboard in a few places around Plymouth. Most recently we lived at anchor for a couple of months. All wind directions are covered when you use Jennycliffe, Cawsand, Barn Pool, Dandy Hole and various wee spots inbetween. Shopping in walking distance is OK from the free short-term pontoon at Saltash. Bit of a trek or limited supplies at Cawsand and Jennycliffe. Not a lot other than the pub near Barn Pool. Good 30 mins walk to the pub/tiny shop from Dandy Hole. And the Yealm is just a short trip away. Nip in to Sutton Harbour for a special occasion (pub, theatre, restaurant etc etc) and the best marina showers in the UK!

If you need shore electricity, easy shopping etc: then this doesn't apply, but I spent a winter on a swinging mooring up at Weir Quay, up The Tamar from Cargreen. Weir Quay Boatyard may have a winter mooring available when the summer part time crowd get lifted out. Quiet, very beautiful and the Spring tides run hard so either a decent outboard or big arm muscles..:D. Bere Alston the village is a nice walk away for stores and if you must...there's a train to Plmouth fairly often. Showers at the yard and friendly folk ran it then, 2006/7. I used to come down on the ebb in the dinghy and go ashore at the pontoon at Saltash for major stores buying or the fish and chip shop when my own cooking got too much to tolerate..Back on the flood.:D :D

Mmmmmm. I spent a very lovely summer in 2007 at Weir Quay. Gorgeous :)
