Plymouth - Le havre canals, advice? plse

Hi , am planning a one way trip down to the Med, in my 10m nelson, some advice please? Will maybe go end of next month, will be leaving Plymouth, and only cruise at 7kn ( fitted smaller than standard engine for canals). Any advice on getting to Le havre please, r.e tides, if i should go direct or head up the south coast a bit then cross over? Where are the best places to stay? If i do it over a couple of nights, and where to stay at Le Havre or entrance to canals? Am looking to do as cheap as possible, as am not loaded! Going there with my girlfriend to find work... somewhere? Hopefuly?Dont know where we will end up, just feel like leaving this country for a change! What about cheap places to stay on the canals? Any advice appreciated!

I do think it would be good idea to coast hop up to Isle Wight area(you can run with the tides) and then across, Also helpful if any teething problems with the engine installation not too far from help
