Plymouth, Dartmouth, Torquay, Eddystone, Plymouth. This wk-end Pics!

Great pix, thanks. Looked to have been fantastic weather, where did this come from?

The forecasters were playing tricks this week. On wind guru, it went from fab to awful then back to pretty good again. Got in this afternoon just as it darkened over and started to rain. Feel like we made the best of it this time at least.

Pic 2 shows my planned lunch stop for this weekend. Hope we get the same weather as you had. In your shot of Beesands I can almost see my inlaws place!

Did you go in close to Start Point to get inside the Skerries?

Great pics.

Great pics.

Not especially close around start point itself, but having rounded, turned North immediately to come into the lee of the land inside the Skerries and speed around Start Bay. Always feels like a good place to open the throttles and enjoy some fast fun around the Bay :o

Never been to Beesands by Road but is there a thro Road? - looks like the same way in and then a u turn to depart?

That Beach by Stoke Fleming is just fantastic isn't it? The kind of place one could happily anchor for a day in the right weather. Hope you have a good time this week end. :)

Beesands has no through road, you're quite correct.

It's not a pretty village - the sea defences are made solid, not attractive. The beach is the best bit and parking is free at the moment (the council want to change that). There's a couple of places doing food and the village green is a good sized space. You could do worse for a day out!

The beach in your pic is called Blackpool and is privately owned. It has a good cafe and is a bit of a honeypot in the summer. I agree it's a lovely spot.

Roll on the weekend. Good tides and weather already booked!

Great pictures - surprised we didn't see you! A group of us did the run up from Brixham to Exmouth Saturday and Brixham around to Dartmouth/Galmpton Sunday. The weather was indeed fantastic - so much so that one of our group went in a 3M Zodiac! I'll sort out some pictures and post up later...

Thanks for the piccies .
Where were you in nos. 6 and 7? I know the latter says Plymouth but I don't recognize where exactly.
You look to have been lucky with the sea-state. I'm currently down in the S.Hams getting the boat ready for launching on Weds. Thus be prepared for high winds and horizontal rain from now until October.

The boat is kept at the Dry Stack at Yacht Haven Quay which is on the Plym, further up river than Mount Batten and Plymouth Yacht Haven, so yes the pics don't show the usual Plymouth landmarks, they would have come into view 5 mins later.

One of the things that frustrates me with this boating lark is the last minute nature of it all. It would have been great to have posted a note and arranged a meet up but I find it all inevitably seems to come together in the last few days when I am finally convinced about the weather and even then am not sure quite where we will be able to go. Maybe one time we'll have a settled period of great weather for several weeks and will be able to plan ahead with confidence... Here's hoping!

Quite agree. We had around half cancel from the rally because of the poor forecast - bet they're kicking themselves now! It's so hard to plan anything, but IMHO, spring is the time to do it and it's very rewarding when it comes off ok...

I know I booked the weather for the whole weekend but we've only taken advantage today.

5.30am start this morning. We'd all been to a 40th birthday Saturday night and although they all said they'd be up in the event only me and the boss made it.

I really don't know what folks see in this boating lark. Apart from the scenery...

I find there is nothing much to be said for it. We're going out again later - the kids we're so jealous!

Great pics and lovely day! Whereabouts did you see the Dolphins/Porpoise? In the Bristol Channel I knew where to go to have a good chance of seeing Dolphins but off the South Coast I've only seen them once in Whitsand Bay. Where were these guys hanging out?

We picked them up around Pear tree point and turned to follow them almost all the way to Start Point. As a consequence we barely made our mooring 3hrs after HW! We'll just follow them for another five minutes... A fast fisher passed nearby and couple of the pod were surfing the wake. Quite an experience for us. I'm not sure whether they were dolphins or porpoises but they looked quite big. It was a fantastic trip. Much more wind later so we only did a bit of fishing in Starehole where we found some mackerel.

Talked to someone this morning and he reckoned they are around Bigbury as well. Could be the same lot I suppose.

Where do you see them on the north coast? The water always seems a bit murky up towards Brean / Weston but I don't suppose that's much of a problem.

We've spotted seals well inside Salcombe Harbour before - asleep on the floating doors where the crabbers keep their catch.
