Hi,
I have a plumbing question.. The galley tap (old style mixer with separate hot and cold) has stripped the spline on the taps so it's not easy to operate.. I want to replace it with a more modern mixer tap.. Problem is I am not very good with plumbing, far better at electrics.. :)

Boat is a 2002 Hunter 326 and the pipe work is a blue and red plastic pipe, I haven't been able to visit the boat for an exact measurement or to look for any printing on the pipe to give a clue whether it's metric or imperial because the marina is closed at the moment..

Questions
1) Can I replace it with a standard kitchen style tap or do I need a "boat" tap?
2) Where would be the best place to get whatever fittings are needed to connect the new tap to the red and blue pipes?

For a heads mixer tap, I simply bought an ordinary household washbasin one that was compatible with a pumped supply at the pressure of my pump. I had replaced all my ‘hose type’ pipes with Speedfit plumbing, but I suspect you could use one of these or similar to connect from hose type pipes to the tap, or to conventional ‘tails’ thereto. 15mm x 1/2" Speedfit Hose Connector - NC448: Amazon.co.uk: DIY & Tools

I'm in a similar position. My galley tap has failed. It's a modern, monbloc, swivel tap and an M3 threaded hole, to locate the spout, has cracked over winter (not from frost damage).

A like-for-like replacement with a "marine" tag costs a whopping £180!. After a fair amount of research I found one, virtually identical, from a commercial seller on ebay for £25. From the measurements and pictures I've taken I'm fairly optimistic that it will be a straight swop; both with 1/2 inch bsp fittings at the end of their flexible hoses. My new tap arrived just before lockdown. I have the joy of trying to contort my body into a cupboard to access the fitting awaiting me. The replacement is heavy, chromed brass and looks well made, no different to the one with the £180 price tag.

This shows a similar fitting, although this is another tap in the heads.

I replaced my galley tap with a Trem mixer tap from Marine Super Store - £39.95. Silky smooth and the spout swivels forwards as well as side to side. Dimensioned to suit a typical galley.
It has 3/8" tails to which I added 3/8 hosetails with a 13mm barb* to meet up with13mm id plastic pipes (your red and blue pipes are probably the same).

A major consideration is what went before - my previous tap just had the one hole in the countertop but the Trem needed two but by careful placement I was able to cover the old with the new..

A ebay seller offers a range of Trem taps for £49.95 but with free delivery.
* Available ASAP supplies and lots of other places. A few s/s jubilee clips as well

Thanks all.. Sounds like it's not going to be too much of an issue.. Once I am ready to take the plunge I'll get some measurements and see if I can source the correct fittings etc..
