Plotter query

Have decided to invest in a Standard Horizon chartplotter. The 7" screen version looks good value particularly when compared to other makes. All the blurb says they connect to any SH DSC VHF - but of course mines a Raymarine.
Does anyone know:
1. Can I connect the plotter to the Raymarine DSC
2. Could I connect to a handheld gps (not SH cos I aint got one of them either)
3. Where do you find these mysterious NMEA leads then?

Hi I have a standard plotter and I think its great though it was on the boat when I bought her last June, it has tide info etc built in.

It mated it up to my Icom M411 vhf to give lat long etc it took 5 mins to wire in, just use the shield wire an NMEA out wire, I think it was yellow from memory.

Your radio and plotter will work fine together, it is just two small wires that need a connection and hey presto.

Likewise if you ever fancy adding AIS data to the display.
