I've recently bought a C125 plotter. The Raymarine manual tells me that a safe distance from the right hand side of the plotter to the compass must be a minimum of 13.8 inches whereas I have about 2 inches. Apparently there is a risk of interference with the magnetic compass. I would rather like the compass to be reliable.
Is there anything I can do to mitigate the risk?
With thanks for your responses

Not really I don't think
'Offer' the plotter up before fixing and watch what the compass does for a start
The compass can be 'swung' ie adjusted afterwards, well depending on which compass model/type/ make etc
This really needs to be done by a Pro to be really accurate
We run 4 boats for training/ trips and Hire, so are always fitting new bits of nav aids etc or fixing bits peeps bash about!
What I have noticed that the two Garmin 276C remote plotters I have don't seem to affect any of the compasses on any of the boats
These bits of good kit are not 'wired' in but work off their own batteries but it still amazes me they do not beggar the compass
Tother thing, I don't know what size/ type of vessel you have but what I do notice on an 'average' size powerboat (if there is such a thing) it is impossible to steer to less than 5 degrees of accuracy.
Unless its an Age Thing!
;):D
