I have just upgraded my pocket PC to one that includes GPS and am thinking about setting it up as a reserve plotter. Does anyone have any firsthand experience of plotter/chart software that runs on Windows Mobile?

Thank you.

i have used pathaway with great success last season on the boat in riddle of the sands n germany and just driven from north germany to portugal using maps and routes downloaded for free using google earth and free software called mapaway.
on the boat i used my charts scanned in, then calibration is easy. I like this since then the plotter charts exactly match the paper ones and is much cheaper ro keep up to date. it costs around 40 quid and is one of the best things i ever bought! I use it on a palm TX but its available for both palm and PPC

I use Maptech on a laptop and Memory Map with the Maptech charts on a Dell Axim 51v handheld (HH). The GPS for the HH is a SiRF 3 Bluetooth which can be left under cover. It all works very well with the same charts on both the laptop (down below) and HH in the cockpit.
For in car (and 'ashore') navigation I use Navigator 6 on the HH with full European charts - cost about 50 quid, I think. Used it from Le Havre to Geneva (in the car) and locally in France and the UK. Much more flexible than a dedicated chartplotter or in car navigator.

I also use Maptech on a mobile phone PDA running Windows Mobile with a bluetooth linked GPS & find it pretty good as a tiller based adjunct to laptop down below (running off a 128). You do however need to have the Memory- Map software in addition to any Maptech chart software in order to run on both Laptop & PDA. This makes total cost in region of £100.

My main difficulties with using the PDA is not the software, but visibility of the display in sunlight & because of ltd overall size.

I did download a trial version of Ozi Explorer, but never really got on with it, but many speak very highly of it.

I use Ozi-Explorer CE version ... IMHO much better than Maptech's offering.

I'm not a great lover of Ozi-Ex full PC version - but you need a licenced copy on PC to install and upload charts to CE version. At the price - its a good deal.

A trial version will not give you CE version ... a completely different style etc. from the PC ....
