Please....what\'s the secret?

Guys
Last year I had a real problem with literally bucket loads of condensation and miserable mildew in the cuddy of my Bayliner, which is perched on the top of the rack at Cobbs Quay. The carpet was completely drenched. I stood a couple of chemical-type humidifiers which overflowed. The mildew has permanently stained my seating and the fabric covering on the roof/walls of my cuddy. The hatch and cuddy door were closed. In the boat itself, again the carpet was wet and left me with mildew stains
Apart from taking the removeable fixtures home for the winter, please....what's the secret?
Many thanks

Heating, proper dehumidifier and ventilation. Go to the bottom of rack next time, do not pass go, do not collect £100........./forums/images/icons/laugh.gif

I had problems with my 1952 classic. It leaked from day one through the opening screen which I remedied with a foam type sealing strip. Also had leaks from the window seals, the water ran around the sides and poured into the boat.Re sealing the windows and the foam strip worked a treat no problems since.
Does this sound similar ?

I agree with all the replies. But carpet was completely drenched??This would indicate leakage, which would exascerbate the condensation.

As the other chaps say, don't seal things up, the opposite in fact. Make sure the boat is covered so rain can't get in but equally leave all internal door etc. open for air flow.

My boat stays on the water and is as dry as a bone inside. Just as a point, it has a Helly Hansen canvas cover which allows any condensation out but won't let water directly in (i.e. rain). The last Bayliner I went to see (I was thinking of buying one) had a heavy "lorry" grade tarpaulin. Brilliantly strong but not breathable. That too had loads of mildew.

Like I said Dave. The chaps got a leak. Bet its through the centre window.

Re: Please....what\'s the secret?

If you have those "glued in" windows, they are renown for leaking. Take them out and refix with sikaflex if this is the case. Also hatch known for leakage. If it's hatch, change it for a Lewmar or similar of the same size , coz there not worth trying to fix.
