please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please can someone plan to do painting, step a 300ft mast, do a base jump or anything else that will change the Solent wind forecast for Saturday.

The only thing that is going to move at any speed at the moment is Boot's stock of factor 50 suntan lotion.

No, sorry - we want to get out to watch the RTIR start and the forecast looks just about perfect. However, I'm happy to emulate F5 conditions for you, by trimming the leg right in, getting just up on the plane, and creating lots of wash /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

After the "wonderful" weather of last night maybe you should consider doing a Pollyanna if the forecast is fulfilled /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Yeah right...nice bit of high pressure in the east looks like it might make itself comfortable.

You have my sympathies...starting the three Peaks yacht race starts on Saturday and it's looking like a long job.

If only this week was next week.

There wont be a RTIR if theres no wind, so not really worth watching a start that dont, if you get my drift!

Still, the tide's looking good, at least you won't be drifting backwards through Hurst (unless you get there after lunch) ! /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Last year I had two reefs in the main and the no. 2 genoa while all around had full sail! So light winds suit me.

There'll be a sea breeze in the afternoon to bring you home.

With all the yachties be-calmed on the rtir do you think there's any chance I'll have studland bay to myself?

Joking aside I hope the forecast changes to at least a F3 so the race goes ahead. I've got my fingers crossed for you.

Light winds would not automatically cause a cancellation, they normally just shorten the course (In fact sometimes they tell you to record your time of St Catz or Bembridge just in case they shorten retrospectively).

However they would have to cancel if the breeze were so light that one group couldn't clear the start line before the next were scheduled to start.

Doan wurry

If they're predicting zilch, there's bound to be a fair bit.

Worth getting your kedge polished up though, just in case.

Did 25 RTIR consecutively. Never cancelled and only 2 shortened course, one at Bem Ledge, one at No Mans.

If it is shortened and you're in a bigger boat, expect to find yourself being asked to tow a Dragon or two home.

Hint - if it's very light in the pm think about coming back up the Hampshire shore - further, but worth it for cleaner air sometimes.

Not sure why or how that would work /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
If one group can't clear the line, then the next group wouldn't be able to make it to the line to start either.

Can't recall from the SI's - is it mandatory to start within a certain period after your appointed time? So if you get there late, wind or no wind, you can set off regardless.

What this doesn't mention is the humidty. I understand the humidity will be high there may be sea fog... /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

I've been in races with light flukey winds where it has taken 2 hours to get .25 miles from the start line and the entire fleet have ended up occupying the same water. That just doesn't work with 1700 boats!

In practice I imagine that the tide will probably be strong enough to carry the starters away between the starts - just make sure you allow for the tide before switching off the engine!
