Hi - brand new to boating and Poole. Fired up by RYA I and II, would like to buy 8 metre-ish motor cruiser, with enclosed cockpit, not fussed about speed, like the look of Galeon 280, Aquador 26HT/DC, SB Minor 28 and Nimbus 280 Coupe. Which best suits for pottering in and out of Poole Harbour? If any?
Thank you all.

You could easily add Ocqeteau to your list and your list is a good start anyway. You don't give away a great deal in your description, but my guess would be that you are looking for something robust, reliable, stable in poor conditions, cost and fuel effective, and with a wheel house for when it rains!

Try a diesel inboard or 4-stroke outboard version.

Good luck and welcome to the forum. :)

Welcome. To make your problems worse I suggest you also look at Beneteau Antares , Jeanneau Merry Fishers and Rodmans. These would all be eminently suitable for what you intend. They won't be as fast as the the other brands you mention but will probably be more economical to buy and to run. Anything Scandinavian is likely to be more expensive, though possibly better finished, than the rest.

Exactly! Thank you for that.....given that, at least to start with, we won't be going any further than round Poole harbour and up the Wareham river, is the draft (or whatever the word for 'depth' of the boat is!) important?

Popping up wareham river is no big deal and all the boats in the sub 30 foot will be fine - just be careful on springs and follow the channel (marked by stakes) at the bottom of the river. Mooring can be fun at Wareham Quay if busy and you wont get under neath the bridge.
