a few weeks a go a helpfull forumite suggested that i put the outer sheeth of a larger rope round some dyneema rope to stop it slipping in the rope clutch. it works a treat, but how do i fix the end ?

i have put two layers of whipping on the dynema to make it a bit thicker just before the part covered by the outer sheeth, the whipped the end of the outer sheeth.

if it's pulled hard through the turning block at the foot of the mast, the whipping on the end of the outer sheething pulls loose, suggestion gratefully received :-)

Do a Palm and needle whipping ... or other term is a sailmakers .....

It consists of normal transverse turns and then longitudinal runs sewn through the rope to lock it all together and stop it slipping. It is the "permamanent" whipping preferred for ropes ends that need long-term stability.......

Now for the fun part ..... http://www.rainbowrope.com/howto/introduction.htm

I know it's a "strange" web-site and believe me - it is NOT my scene ... but when I goggled for a demo of the Palm and Needle Whipping - this site came up and yes it does have a demo of it !!! Scroll on down - honest !!!!

There is another way of course - if you want to try - heat-shrink tubing .... slip it over, heat it with hair-dryer or hot-air paint remover (take care !) ... shrink it to tight fit.
