NONE OF THEM DEFINES IT!

Aaaarrgghhhh

Thanks for prompt replies - I'm stumped.

It stands for: Information & Communication Technology (as per robih, above).

The Information Technology (IT) bit is the 'old' term for all things computery.

The Communications bit refers to computer networks (i.e. enabling computers to talk to one another) and also encompasses such things as "voice over IP" which enables voice communication (AKA telephone calls) to be made over computer networks (rather than telephone networks).

If the form is related to an educational context the Information Communication Technology is about how we can use computers to develop learning. This differs from IT which is the teaching and learning of computer skills. A miniscule bit of programming but mostly spreadsheets, databases, wordprocessing, graphics etc - taught in schools and examinable as an option at GCSE.
ICT is more the way we can use computer technology to 'deliver, support and promote learning' In its simplest form a powerpoint presentation, perhaps using an interactive whiteboard and digital projector in a classroom to teach something that once upon a day might have been chalk and talk. The use of hyperlinks to go away from the presentation to a website to illustrate a point, the use of a brief bit of video streaming to demonstrate something. A small chunk or learning object - perhaps an interactive quiz or diagram is another example. Have a look at the National Learning Network materials on the NLN website or the things that are available on the FERL/BeCTA site (just do a google search to find the sites)The fundamental issue really is that ICT is not there to replace teachers but to enhance their presentation and learning materials. Done well it can be a brilliant way of enhancing the learning experience - naturally, done badly it can be awful!
Hope that helps
ICT coordinator posts in schools are normally for people who can find web-based or other resources and then support teachers/ tutors by sorting out easy access for pupils/students (perhaps by storing them in a Virtual Learning Environment)
The JISC website should also help
In industry its simply a matter of considering the above in terms of how communications technology can assist a business - Communication is Information, Information is Power etc.

ICT - International Computers and Tabulators, forerunners of ICL. Not that I think it refers to that in your case ;-)

I cannot wait for the next 10 years to pass - the depths to which your cynicism will have plunged will be a truly magnificent phenomenon

Does this mean you are going to give a fiver to the RNLI after all? I think that would dramatically reverse the process, or at least halt my slithering slide.

Away with yer daft nonsense - Brendan has the measure of you and has proved, indisputably and irrefutably that no-one took me up on it - SO - the fiver stays in my sky rocket.
Now - about your grumpy old man routine - its definately developing.
